When Akim and I lived in our first apartment we had a spider plant... correction, I had a spider plant. I had done my research, looked at which species were safe for pets, tolerated low light and didn't require a ton of care. That spider plant lasted a whole year. It is to this day the longest living plant I have ever owned.
My every attempt to own a plant can only be described as a crime against Mother Nature herself. I don't even attempt to buy indoor plants anymore, relegated to a singular hanging annual basket (usually geraniums) that I can not touch. For real. Watering is left up to the gods and my kids.
Despite this absurdly black thumb, I still want plants. I just find different ways to incorporate them into my life. A spread in my planner is a really convenient way to get a daily look at some foliage without needing to worry about watering. The desert theme and warm color palette featured in Arid Skies have the added benefit of reminding me of warmer weather during these last cold days of winter.
I've been challenging myself to work with colors outside my safety zone. I had originally wanted to play within the various green tones usually found in various species of succulents. This artwork gave me the opportunity to explore softer tones and while I struggled mightily to find a peach color I liked (peach and I are not on friendly terms), I am happy with how this one turned out.
